Currux Vision — Interview With the Developer
We sat down with the team behind Currux Vision to talk through what it actually took to build an AI-powered driving assistant that runs entirely on a smartphone.
What did you build before this? The team had previously built a car-subscription platform, Currux — Car Subscriptions, which shaped a lot of how they thought about the driver experience from day one.
What was the hardest technical problem? Running three machine learning models in parallel, in real time, on consumer mobile hardware — and getting the balance right between accuracy, speed, memory and power usage, without cooking the phone or compromising reliability.
What does the app actually do? Four things: coach the driver, help prevent accidents with AI, give fleet managers real-time tracking and analytics, and provide navigation that keeps working even without cell coverage.
Why not just build dedicated hardware? Because most competing systems require expensive, purpose-built hardware to do any one of those four things. Currux Vision runs commercial-grade computer vision on an iPhone 6S or newer, folding functions that would otherwise need several separate fleet-management systems into one app.
The app took roughly a year to build. The team's ask, at launch, was simple: try the free first month, tell us what's wrong with it — and if you're a parent of a teenage driver, this is exactly who we built it for.
